Sesame Gouda Stuffed Naan with Honey Recipe

I recently made this sesame gouda stuffed naan with honey, and honestly, I couldn’t stop at just one piece. The combination of melty cheese, warm bread, and sweet honey drizzle felt incredibly comforting. I love how the crispy sesame crust adds a nutty crunch to every bite. It’s one of those recipes that feels fancy but is surprisingly simple to prepare
Total Time 35 minutes
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour – Gives the naan a soft and chewy texture; avoid whole wheat if you want it extra fluffy.
  • 1 teaspoon salt – Enhances the overall flavor of the dough.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder – Helps create a light airy naan without yeast.
  • ¾ cup plain yogurt – Adds moisture and a slight tang; use full-fat for best results.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil – Keeps the dough soft and easy to work with.
  • ½ cup warm water – Helps bind the dough; add gradually to avoid stickiness.
  • 1 cup gouda cheese freshly grated – Melts beautifully; always grate fresh for better texture.
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds – Adds crunch and nutty flavor on the outside.
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted – Brushed on top for richness and golden color.
  • 2 –3 tablespoons honey – Balances the savory cheese with natural sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes optional – Adds a slight heat to contrast the honey.
  • Fresh herbs like thyme or parsley – Brightens the flavor and presentation

Method

  1. Start by mixing flour, salt, and baking powder in a bowl. Add yogurt and olive oil, then slowly mix in warm water. Knead until you get a soft dough. Let it rest for about 10–15 minutes for easier rolling.
  2. Grate the gouda cheese fresh for the best melt and flavor. You can mix in chili flakes or herbs if you want a little extra kick. Keep the filling ready before shaping the naan.
  3. Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each into a small circle. Place cheese in the center, then fold and seal the edges. Gently roll it again into a flat naan shape.
  4. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top and lightly press them into the dough. This helps them stick well during cooking. It also gives a beautiful texture and nutty flavor.
  5. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and place the naan on it. Cook each side until golden brown and slightly charred. The cheese inside will melt perfectly as it cooks.
  6. Brush hot naan with melted butter right after cooking. Drizzle honey generously over the top. Add herbs or chili flakes for extra flavor before serving.

Notes

  • I always use freshly grated cheese because it melts smoother and tastes richer.
  • Letting the dough rest makes it softer and easier to roll out.
  • I cook naan on a very hot pan to get those beautiful charred spots.
  • Adding a pinch of chili flakes balances the sweetness of honey perfectly.
  • I like to serve it immediately while the cheese is still gooey and warm.
