Rose Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

I still remember the first time I baked these Rose Chocolate Chip Cookies — the kitchen smelled like a garden in bloom, and I couldn’t wait to take that first bite. I was honestly surprised at how beautifully the rose flavor pairs with chocolate chips! They came out soft in the middle and just slightly crisp at the edges.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour – Measure carefully; too much flour makes cookies dense instead of soft.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda – Helps create a chewy interior and slight spread.
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder – Adds lift so cookies bake evenly.
  • 1/2 cup salted butter softened – Room-temperature butter creams smoothly for perfect texture.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar – Adds sweetness and helps cookies spread properly.
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar packed – Adds moisture and a mild caramel flavor.
  • 1 large egg – Binds ingredients and keeps cookies tender.
  • 1 teaspoon rose extract – Provides the delicate floral flavor; adjust based on taste preference.
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips – Classic choice but dark or milk chocolate also works well.
  • Rose chocolate chips optional – Decorative chocolate roses make cookies extra special.

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper. Preparing everything ahead saves time later. This also ensures cookies bake evenly right away.
  2. Combine flour, baking soda, and baking powder in a bowl. Mixing dry ingredients separately ensures even distribution. This step prevents uneven texture in cookies.
  3. Beat softened butter with both sugars until fluffy and pale. Proper creaming adds air to dough. This step helps create soft and chewy cookies.
  4. Mix in the egg and rose extract until smooth. Scrape down the bowl sides for even blending. The rose extract gives cookies their signature floral aroma.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture. Mix only until combined to avoid tough cookies. Overmixing makes cookies dense.
  6. Gently stir chocolate chips into the dough. Make sure chips distribute evenly. Every bite should contain chocolate goodness.
  7. Scoop dough balls onto prepared baking sheets, leaving space between them. Cookies spread slightly during baking. Uniform sizes ensure even cooking.
  8. Bake 8–10 minutes until edges turn lightly golden. Centers remain soft while cooling firms them slightly. Avoid overbaking for chewy texture.
  9. While cookies are still warm, press chocolate roses into the tops. Warm cookies help decorations stick. This step adds beautiful presentation.
  10. Place cookies in freezer for about 5 minutes. This sets decorations quickly. It also stops further melting.
  11. Allow cookies to cool fully, then serve and enjoy. Soft texture and floral aroma make them irresistible. Perfect for sharing or gifting.

Notes

  • I always measure flour carefully to keep cookies soft and tender.
  • I make sure butter is truly room temperature for smoother dough.
  • I freeze decorated cookies briefly so chocolate roses hold shape.
  • I sometimes chill dough for 30 minutes when I want thicker cookies.
