Ingredients

  • 6 –8 fresh raspberries – Fresh raspberries bring a natural sweetness and tart balance. Avoid frozen raspberries as they release too much water and dull the flavor.
  • 6 –8 fresh mint leaves – Fresh mint adds aroma and brightness. Always use fresh leaves for the best taste.
  • 2 oz white rum – White rum gives a smooth base without overpowering the fruity flavors.
  • 1 oz lime juice – Freshly squeezed lime juice adds acidity and zest. Bottled juice often lacks the same punch.
  • 1 oz simple syrup – Sweetens the drink and balances tart flavors. You can adjust depending on your preference.
  • Soda water – Provides fizz and lightens the cocktail. Use chilled soda water for the best result.
  • Mint sprig and raspberries for garnish – Enhances both aroma and presentation.

Method

  1. Start by placing the raspberries and mint leaves in the bottom of your sturdy glass. Add freshly squeezed lime juice and simple syrup. Gently muddle using a muddler or spoon to release the raspberry juices and mint oils. Be careful not to shred the mint too much, as it can make the drink bitter.
  2. Once muddled, pour in the white rum. This will add depth and a subtle sweetness that complements the tart fruit flavors. Fill the glass with ice cubes to chill the drink and slightly dilute it, making it smoother and more refreshing.
  3. Stir the muddled raspberries, mint, lime, syrup, and rum together with a bar spoon. Stirring evenly combines all the flavors, ensuring each sip tastes balanced and full of flavor. Don’t rush this step, as the blending of ingredients is key to the perfect mojito.
  4. Pour soda water over the mixture to add effervescence. This step lightens the cocktail, giving it that sparkling, refreshing finish. Stir very lightly once more to mix without losing too much carbonation.
  5. Finally, garnish with a sprig of mint and a couple of whole raspberries. This not only enhances the drink’s look but also adds a fresh aroma every time you take a sip. Serve immediately while it’s cold and fizzy.
