Quick and Easy Blackened Shrimp Recipe

I love quick recipes that make dinner exciting without taking all evening. This blackened shrimp recipe is one of my favorites because it’s packed with bold flavor and comes together in just 15 minutes.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds shrimp cleaned and deveined – I prefer wild-caught shrimp for a fresher taste. If using frozen, make sure they’re fully thawed and patted dry.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter – just enough to coat the shrimp and help the seasoning stick.
  • 5 tablespoons blackened seasoning – homemade is ideal for customizing the heat and flavor. It typically includes paprika cayenne, garlic, onion, thyme, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper.

Method

  1. Place the shrimp in a large bowl and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil along with the blackened seasoning. Toss the shrimp thoroughly so each piece is coated with the flavorful spice blend.
  2. Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil to a skillet over medium heat. Let it warm for about a minute so the shrimp cooks evenly without sticking.
  3. Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet. Cook for about 2 minutes per side until the shrimp turns pink and opaque and the seasoning forms a fragrant, dark crust. Remove from heat immediately to prevent overcooking.
  4. Transfer the shrimp to a serving dish and garnish with fresh herbs or a squeeze of lemon. Serve hot for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • I always pat the shrimp dry before seasoning; it helps the spices stick better.
  • Don’t overcrowd the skillet; cook in batches if needed to get that perfect sear.
  • Let the skillet get hot enough before adding shrimp to create the signature blackened crust.
  • I like to add a touch of smoked paprika for an extra smoky flavor.
