Ingredients

  • 1 12-count package Hawaiian Sweet Rolls – Soft, slightly sweet rolls hold all the layers and won’t get tough when baked.
  • 4 ounces sliced pepperoni – Classic pizza flavor that’s spicy and savory in every bite.
  • 6 slices provolone cheese – Adds mild buttery flavor that pairs well with mozzarella.
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese – Excellent melting cheese that gives that gooey pull-apart goodness.
  • 1/2 cup butter – Brushed on to give the rolls a rich golden crust.
  • 3 garlic cloves minced or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder – Fresh garlic gives a punchy aroma and flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes – A touch of heat complements the pepperoni.
  • 1 teaspoon fresh oregano or 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano – Adds a subtle herbal lift.
  • Warmed marinara sauce for dipping – Optional but essential for dipping these sliders like mini pizza bites.

Method

  1. First, I preheat my oven to 350°F so it’s hot and ready to go. I line a 9×13 inch baking dish with aluminum foil then spray it lightly with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Having everything ready makes the rest so easy!
  2. I melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl, then mix in minced garlic, oregano, and chili flakes. This aromatic butter becomes the flavor base brushed on the rolls to give them a rich, savory crust during baking.
  3. Using a long serrated knife, I slice the Hawaiian rolls in half lengthwise, keeping them connected as one piece. This helps them bake evenly and makes cutting the sliders into neat squares easier later.
  4. I brush a third of the garlic butter over the bottom half, then layer provolone, pepperoni, and finally mozzarella. This order ensures every bite is cheesy, savory, and well-seasoned.
  5. I set the top half of the rolls on, brush the rest of the garlic butter over the top, then cover with foil. I bake for about 20–22 minutes until the cheese melts, then uncover for another 3–5 minutes to brown the tops lightly.
  6. After baking, I let the sliders sit for a minute before slicing. I always serve them warm with marinara sauce for dipping — it gives the full classic pizza flavor.

Notes

  • I always brush extra garlic butter on the edges for maximum flavor.
  • Avoid adding sauce inside the sliders — it can make them soggy.
  • Letting the sliders rest before cutting helps the cheese stay in place.
  • I prefer freshly minced garlic because it makes the aroma so much richer.
