Melon Soda Float

A melon soda float is a refreshing Japanese-inspired drink that combines fizzy melon soda with creamy ice cream. It’s simple, colorful, and perfect for summer days. Anime fans may also recognize it as a favorite café treat often seen on screen. With just two main ingredients, you can make this dessert-drink in minutes and enjoy it chilled with a spoon or straw.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chilled melon soda – gives the float its signature vibrant flavor and fizz.
  • 1 large scoop vanilla ice cream – softens into the soda for a creamy texture other flavors like chocolate or strawberry can be used.
  • 1 maraschino cherry optional – adds a bright contrast and café-style look.

Method

  1. Take the ice cream out of the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for about 5–10 minutes. This makes it easier to scoop and helps it blend slightly when placed in the soda. If it’s too hard, the float won’t mix as smoothly.
  2. Choose a tall, clear glass for the best presentation. Pour the chilled melon soda slowly into the glass, leaving some space at the top for the ice cream. A clear glass not only looks good but also lets you see the fizz and color of the soda.
  3. Using your ice cream scoop, place one large scoop of softened vanilla ice cream carefully on top of the soda. The fizz will rise slightly, creating a foamy layer. This creamy topping is what makes the float both a dessert and a drink.
  4. Add a maraschino cherry on top for color if you like. Serve immediately with a straw and a long spoon. You can sip the soda and scoop the ice cream separately, or mix them together for a creamy melon milkshake.
