I have to say, the Hot Sausage Feta Honey Pizza recipe completely surprised me the first time I made it. I wasn’t sure how honey would pair with spicy sausage, but the result was incredible. The combination of salty feta, rich sausage, and a drizzle of sweet honey creates a perfect balance of flavors.

Hot Sausage Feta Honey Pizza Recipe

I have to say, this pizza completely surprised me the first time I made it. I wasn’t sure how honey would pair with spicy sausage, but the result was incredible.

Ingredients

  • pizza dough 1 pound
  • olive oil 2 tablespoons
  • hot Italian sausage 8 ounces
  • feta cheese ¾ cup, crumbled
  • mozzarella cheese 1 cup, shredded
  • garlic 2 cloves, minced
  • red pepper flakes ½ teaspoon
  • honey 2–3 tablespoons
  • fresh herbs like parsley or basil, 2 tablespoons chopped
  • salt and black pepper to taste

Method

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 475°F (245°C). Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface until you reach your desired thickness. Transfer it to a baking sheet or pizza stone and lightly brush with olive oil.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the sausage, breaking it into small crumbles. Cook until browned and fully done, then drain excess grease. This step ensures the sausage is flavorful and not greasy on the pizza.
  3. Spread the cooked sausage evenly over the dough. Sprinkle mozzarella and feta cheese across the surface, then add minced garlic and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Make sure the toppings are evenly distributed for balanced flavor.
  4. Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 15–18 minutes. The crust should turn golden and the cheese should be melted and slightly bubbly. Keep an eye on it to avoid over-browning.
  5. Once out of the oven, drizzle honey generously over the hot pizza. Sprinkle fresh herbs on top for a burst of freshness. Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • I always use fresh mozzarella instead of pre-shredded because it melts much better
  • Don’t skip pre-cooking the sausage; it keeps the pizza from getting greasy
  • I like adding honey right after baking so it melts slightly into the toppings
  • If I want extra crispiness, I pre-bake the crust for 3–4 minutes before adding toppings
  • A pinch of sea salt on top enhances both the sweet and savory flavors.
