Honey Mustard Turkey Avocado Sandwich Recipe

I recently made this honey mustard turkey avocado sandwich, and honestly it instantly became one of my favorite quick meals. The combination of creamy avocado, juicy turkey, sweet honey, and tangy mustard creates an incredible flavor balance.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices sourdough bread
  • 1/2 ripe avocado mashed
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 5 oz thinly sliced deli turkey
  • Handful salt & vinegar potato chips
  • 2 –3 slices heirloom tomato
  • Handful microgreens or lettuce

Method

  1. Start by placing two slices of soft sourdough bread on a clean surface. Fresh bread gives the sandwich a soft texture and slightly tangy flavor. If your bread feels a little dry, lightly warming it can help soften it.
  2. Mash half of a ripe avocado with a fork until smooth. Spread the mashed avocado evenly onto one slice of bread. This layer adds creaminess and acts as a base that holds the other ingredients in place.
  3. On the second slice of bread, spread Dijon mustard evenly. Then drizzle a small amount of honey over the mustard. This combination creates the signature sweet-and-tangy flavor of the sandwich.
  4. Place thin slices of deli turkey on top of the avocado layer. Thinly shaved turkey works best because it distributes evenly and makes the sandwich easier to bite.
  5. Add slices of heirloom tomatoes and a handful of microgreens or lettuce. These ingredients bring freshness, color, and a juicy texture that balances the rich avocado and turkey.
  6. Place a handful of salt and vinegar potato chips on top of the turkey. The chips add a crispy texture and a salty kick that makes the sandwich extra satisfying.
  7. Place the mustard and honey bread slice on top of the sandwich. Press gently, slice the sandwich in half using a bread knife, and serve immediately for the best taste.

Notes

  • I always use fresh, soft sourdough bread because it gives the sandwich the best texture and flavor.
  • I like to mash the avocado slightly chunky instead of completely smooth for a better bite.
  • Sometimes I add extra tomato slices because the juiciness balances the saltiness of the chips.
  • If the bread is slightly stale, I wrap it in a damp paper towel and warm it for about 10–15 seconds to soften it.
