Christmas Tree Pull Apart Bread Recipe

I recently made this adorable Christmas Tree Pull Apart Bread, and it instantly became one of my favorite festive treats. The smell of freshly baked dough and melted cheese filled the kitchen, making it feel like Christmas morning.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 17 minutes
Servings: 8

Ingredients

  • 4 string cheese mozzarella sticks — Fresh string cheese melts beautifully and stretches perfectly when pulled apart.
  • 4 Colby-Monterey Jack cheese sticks — Adds a mild tang and creamy flavor that balances the mozzarella.
  • 16 oz can large biscuits 8 biscuits total — Store-bought biscuits save time while keeping the dough soft and fluffy.
  • 2 tablespoons butter — Brushed on top for a rich golden crust.
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder — Adds that irresistible garlicky aroma and depth.
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning — Infuses the bread with classic herbs that feel cozy and festive.
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley — Brings a pop of color and freshness that ties the Christmas theme together.
  • 3 tablespoons finely grated Parmesan — Adds a salty nutty layer of flavor that enhances every bite.
  • 1 cup pizza or marinara sauce — Perfect for dipping; warm and comforting with each cheesy piece.

Method

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line your baking sheet with parchment paper. Cut each cheese stick into four smaller pieces, giving you 32 cheese chunks. Separate the biscuits and cut each one into four smaller dough pieces — that’s 32 total.
  2. Take one dough piece, flatten it slightly, and place one piece of cheese inside. Pinch the edges tightly to seal, then roll it into a ball. Arrange all the balls seam-side down on the baking sheet, forming a Christmas tree shape. Keep them close but not overlapping.
  3. Melt the butter and mix in garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Brush the mixture generously over the dough balls. Bake in the preheated oven for 15–17 minutes or until golden brown. Once baked, sprinkle fresh parsley and Parmesan cheese on top. Serve warm with pizza or marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • I make sure to seal the dough balls tightly so the cheese doesn’t leak out during baking.
  • I let the butter mixture sit for a minute before brushing — it allows the herbs to bloom and enhances flavor.
  • I always serve the bread warm, right out of the oven. The cheese is at its gooey best!
  • I preheat the pizza sauce in a small bowl so it’s ready for dipping as soon as the bread comes out.
  • A quick extra sprinkle of Parmesan right after baking gives the bread a slightly crispy, cheesy crust.
