Blueberry Mojito Recipe

I first discovered this amazing twist on a classic mojito during a summer barbecue, and it instantly became my signature drink. The fresh blueberries add a burst of sweet and tangy flavor that perfectly complements the mint and lime, creating a truly unforgettable cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 8 fresh blueberries: Fresh is non-negotiable here. They provide a juicy pop when muddled that frozen berries just can't replicate.
  • 10 fresh mint leaves: This is the ideal amount for that classic mojito kick without overpowering the drink.
  • 2 tsp granulated sugar: This provides the perfect level of sweetness but you can adjust it to your personal preference.
  • 1 lime cut into wedges: Using wedges allows you to extract both the juice and the essential oils from the peel for maximum flavor.
  • 2 oz white rum: A quality white rum like Bacardi Superior offers a clean crisp finish that lets the other flavors shine.
  • 1/2 cup club soda: Use chilled club soda to give your mojito that essential fizz and refreshing finish.
  • Ice cubes: Plenty of ice is key to keeping your drink cold without diluting it too quickly.

Method

  1. Start by placing your fresh blueberries, mint leaves, granulated sugar, and lime wedges into a sturdy highball glass. Now, it's time to muddle. The key is to be gentle. You want to press down and twist just enough to release the juice from the blueberries and the fragrant oils from the mint. You'll know you're done when the berries have popped and the air is filled with a fresh, minty aroma.
  2. Next, fill the glass to the top with ice cubes. Don't be shy with the ice; it keeps the drink perfectly chilled and ensures it dilutes at just the right pace. Pour your two ounces of white rum directly over the ice. Watch as it cascades through the muddled fruit and mint, beginning the beautiful fusion of flavors.
  3. Finally, top your drink with chilled club soda, pouring it slowly to preserve the bubbles. Give the mixture one gentle stir with a long spoon to combine everything without losing the carbonation. For a beautiful presentation, garnish your drink with a few extra blueberries and a fresh sprig of mint. Your delicious blueberry mojito is now ready to be enjoyed.
