Ingredients

  • 5-7 fresh mint leaves - Spearmint is the traditional choice for its clean classic flavor that doesn't overpower the drink.
  • 1 ounce simple syrup - This sweetens the drink; you can adjust the amount to your personal preference.
  • 1.5 ounces white rum - A light white rum is essential for a classic mojito taste without adding extra color.
  • 1 ounce blue curaçao - This liqueur provides the signature blue color and a hint of orange flavor.
  • 2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice - Fresh is non-negotiable! It provides a bright zesty kick that bottled juice can't match.
  • 1.5 ounces lime-flavored soda water - Adds fizz and enhances the citrus notes. Club soda also works well.
  • Mint sprig for garnish - A fresh sprig adds aroma and a professional touch.
  • Lime slices for garnish - Thinly sliced lime wheels or wedges make the drink visually appealing.

Method

  1. Start by placing the fresh mint leaves in the bottom of a tall, sturdy glass. Pour the simple syrup over the leaves. Use a muddler to gently press and twist the mint leaves for about a minute. The goal is to release their fragrant oils without tearing them into tiny pieces, which can make the drink bitter.
  2. Next, squeeze your fresh limes to get about two ounces of juice. Using a citrus juicer can help you get the most juice out of each lime. This fresh juice is crucial for the bright, crisp flavor of your mojito, so avoid the temptation to use bottled juice.
  3. Pour the freshly squeezed lime juice into the glass with your muddled mint. Add the white rum and the blue curaçao. Give the mixture a good stir to combine all the liquids thoroughly, creating the beautiful blue base for your cocktail.
  4. Fill your glass to the top with ice. This will keep your drink perfectly chilled. For a professional look, tuck a few thin lime wheels between the ice and the side of the glass. This adds a fantastic visual element that makes the drink even more appealing.
  5. Finally, top off the drink with lime-flavored soda water or club soda, pouring it slowly to preserve the fizz. Garnish your creation with a large, fresh mint sprig and another lime wheel on the rim of the glass. Serve it immediately and enjoy the refreshing taste.
