Blackberry Mojito

There’s nothing quite as refreshing as a mojito on a warm day, and this Blackberry Mojito takes it to another level. The muddled blackberries add a fruity burst that blends beautifully with the mint and lime. This combination makes the drink sweet, tangy, and fresh all at once.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces white rum – choose a clean crisp rum for the best flavor balance.
  • 2 ounces club soda – adds fizz and lightness making the cocktail refreshing.
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice or 3 lime wedges – fresh lime juice gives the perfect citrusy tang.
  • 3 fresh blackberries – ripe and juicy blackberries bring natural sweetness and color.
  • 1/2 –3/4 ounce simple syrup – liquid sugar blends smoothly into the drink better than granulated sugar.
  • 6 –7 fresh mint leaves – essential for aroma and freshness; use spearmint for stronger flavor.

Method

  1. Start by placing the lime wedges, fresh blackberries, and mint leaves into your Boston shaker. Use a muddler to gently press down and release the juices and oils. Don’t overdo it; you want to extract the flavors without tearing the mint leaves completely.
  2. Pour in the white rum and simple syrup over the muddled mixture. Fill the shaker with ice, then secure the lid and shake it for about 10 seconds. This step chills the mixture and ensures that the syrup blends evenly with the rum.
  3. Pour everything from the shaker directly into a highball glass without straining. This keeps the fruit pieces and mint inside, giving the mojito its rustic charm. Top it up with the club soda to add fizz and lighten the flavors.
  4. Use a bar spoon to give the drink a gentle stir, mixing the soda with the muddled base. Finally, garnish with a fresh mint sprig. For extra aroma, lightly slap the mint between your palms before adding it to the glass—it releases natural oils and enhances the fragrance.
