Berry Maple Chia Jam Recipe

I recently made this berry maple chia jam in my kitchen, and I honestly couldn’t believe how easy it was. I love homemade spreads, but many traditional jams take a lot of sugar and cooking time.
Total Time 10 minutes
Calories: 48

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups fresh berries strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries
  • 3 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 4 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • Juice of 1 lemon

Method

  1. Start by placing the fresh berries and maple syrup in a small saucepan over medium heat. As they warm up, the berries begin releasing their juices. This creates a naturally sweet and fragrant mixture.
  2. Once the berries soften, use a fork or potato masher to crush them. I usually mash them lightly because I like small fruit pieces in my jam. The texture becomes thick and slightly syrupy as the berries break down.
  3. Allow the berry mixture to come to a gentle boil for about one minute. This short cooking step helps concentrate the flavor and soften the fruit completely.
  4. Reduce the heat and stir in the chia seeds and lemon juice. The chia seeds absorb the liquid and begin thickening the mixture naturally, replacing traditional jam thickeners.
  5. Transfer the jam to a clean glass container and allow it to cool at room temperature. As it cools and chills, the chia seeds continue absorbing liquid and the jam becomes thicker.

Notes

  • I like using a mix of berries because it creates a deeper flavor and richer color.
  • When I want a smoother jam, I mash the berries more thoroughly before adding chia seeds.
  • I usually taste the jam before adding extra maple syrup because some berries are already naturally sweet.
  • If the jam feels too thick after chilling, I stir in a small spoon of warm water.
  • I always store it in a glass jar because it keeps the flavor fresh and clean
