Air Fryer Pineapple Chunks Recipe

I recently tried making air fryer pineapple chunks, and I have to say, I was surprised by how good they turned out. The edges became lightly caramelized while the inside stayed juicy and tender.

Ingredients

  • fresh pineapple 1 medium, cut into chunks
  • brown sugar 1–2 tablespoons
  • cinnamon ½ teaspoon
  • vanilla extract ½ teaspoon, optional
  • lime juice 1 teaspoon, optional
  • pinch of salt

Method

  1. Start by peeling and cutting the pineapple into evenly sized chunks. Try to keep them similar in size so they cook evenly. Place all the pieces in a mixing bowl to get ready for seasoning.
  2. Add brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, lime juice, and a pinch of salt. Toss everything gently until the pineapple is well coated. Make sure every piece gets a nice layer of flavor.
  3. Preheat your air fryer to around 375°F (190°C) for a few minutes. This helps the pineapple cook evenly and gives it that beautiful caramelized texture. A hot air fryer is key for best results.
  4. Place the pineapple chunks in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding so the hot air can circulate properly. If needed, cook in batches for even cooking.
  5. Cook the pineapple for about 8–12 minutes, shaking or flipping halfway through. You’ll notice the edges turning golden and slightly crisp. This is when the sugars start caramelizing.
  6. Once the pineapple is tender and lightly browned, it’s ready to go. The texture should be juicy inside with slightly crisp edges. Remove carefully using tongs.
  7. Let the pineapple cool slightly before serving. It tastes best when warm, as the flavors are more intense. You can enjoy it immediately or pair it with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • I always use fresh pineapple because canned or frozen doesn’t caramelize as well.
  • I try not to overcrowd the basket, as it makes the pineapple steam instead of crisp.
  • I sometimes add a tiny bit of butter for a richer flavor and glossy finish.
  • I like to shake the basket halfway through for even browning.
  • I found that slightly ripe pineapple gives the best balance of sweet and tangy.
