Air Fryer Churro Bites with Chocolate Dipping Sauce Recipe

I absolutely love making churros at home, but traditional frying can be messy and time-consuming. That’s why I was thrilled to try these Air Fryer Churro Bites!
Total Time 25 minutes
Servings: 6
Calories: 220

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 ½ tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup heavy cream

Method

  1. Start by boiling water, butter, sugar, and salt in a small saucepan. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in flour until it forms a smooth ball. Let it cool for 5 minutes before adding eggs.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract to give the dough a warm, fragrant flavor. The dough should be thick but pipeable.
  3. Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe small 1-2 inch bites onto parchment paper or a silicone mat, making sure they are spaced evenly for even cooking.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the churro bites in a single layer and cook for 8-10 minutes until golden brown. Shake the basket halfway through to ensure even crisping.
  5. While warm, toss the churro bites in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon. This helps the sugar stick perfectly and gives them that classic churro flavor.
  6. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until just simmering. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips until smooth and glossy. Serve warm alongside the churro bites.

Notes

  • I always let the dough cool slightly before adding eggs to prevent them from scrambling.
  • Using a star tip gives the churros those classic ridges that hold more cinnamon sugar.
  • I like to air fry in batches to avoid overcrowding and ensure crisp bites.
  • Tossing immediately in cinnamon sugar while warm ensures perfect coating.
